A Real Page Turner

Have that empty spot on your bookcases that needs filled? Looking for something neat and unusual to decorate the tops of your hutch? Low on cash, but want to stretch those creative juices? Then here is a fun and free project to do with all those old paperbacks you might have laying around!
Starting at one cover, simply turn each page in towards the spine, catching in the spine to create a loop. Continue through the entire book (you could even read as you go, catching on your old reading, or figuring out why this is a better use for that old book anyway!)
Tape the covers together to form a column...repeat in different size books to create a great textural display, or turn on sides to show off the 'flower' pattern. Once those pages start turning...your creativity could go wild! Have fun!

P.S. I'm making a set of 3 such designs, varying heights. I'm going to fold in the corners of the smallest book, making a more rounded shape. -
I have done this with old catalogues and used the finished product as a door stop. I loved doing them and taught my boys to make them as well. I never thought of using an old paperback book though.

We used to make these to fold down like Christmas trees and then spray silver and sprinkle glitter.

Well I came to tell you I loved Kijsa's "oven,plate, pie" poem...and see that someone is remodeling a wonderful home! We did this one year for a Halloween party centerpiece. We added stems and jack o'lantern faces. We even spray painted some orange. We did a whole long line of them down the center of a long table and it look wonderful. Thanks for the memory!

My great grandmother (who passed recently just a month shy of her 101st birthday) had something similar for as long as I remember. It was made from a catalog though and it was so heavy she used it as a doorstop.
