February....One Time Around the Block(s)
Friday, February 1
Brrrrr......February is here with cold icy winds and warm sentimental hearts....these adorable blocks will make a fabulous statement (pun totally intended) on your napkin holder at your Valentine's Day party...
If you are thinking..."Those are just the thing...I must have them...my party will not be complete without them." Have no fear...here's an easy tutorial...
Gather these supplies: two 1 1/2" square wooden blocks, three complimentary scrapbook papers, an acrylic paint color to match, sandpaper, scissors, vellum, and glue.
Step 1: Paint wooden blocks on all sides with color, let dry. Sand all edges and corners, exposing a bit of bare wood.
Step 2: Cut scrapbook paper to size, measuring slightly smaller than block face, and cutting two of each design, totally six. Place the first paper on the block, adhering to opposite sides. Add each additional paper the same way.
Step 3: Print out your letters and symbols on the vellum paper, coordinating your ink color and font to your papers. Cut out in squares, and glue to sides. Finish the block with a light sanding on the paper edges to slightly distress.
This would be a great idea to do on found wooden blocks, similar to The Painted Block Project...consider using your child's artwork (what a way to tell a story), or favorite love letters....
...Even wallpaper from your homes as story blocks to tell where you have been and where you are going...
Now for more Valentine's fun...this tag is another option for the center of the napkin holder...(or the perfect teacher/next-door neighbor/best friend/mother-in-law/mother/sister) present....(of course we really like the last option)...
...if this project looks like fun to you...if you are thinking...this is the year of the "Crafty Valentine's Day Celebration"....search your home for little bits of wonderfulness...snippets of you...to create a one of a kind tag...and then finish by attaching to something sentimental and sweet!
If your tidbits have been trashed and your craft drawer is empty...we also have these kits available for sale in our ETSY shop....
...perfect craft for a snowy, wintry February afternoon...
We hope you enjoy...
smiles, kari & kijsa

I'm a little stunned! I've spent the past few hours making these - I had not yet seen your post - thought I had dreamt them up myself. The only difference is that I used children's stacking blocks. At Christmas last year I made a set, covered them with ivory damask wallpaper, then labeled each with one of God's gifts to us. (Salvation, peace, love, hope, joy...) They were such a hit I've made them for friends also. The beauty of this idea is that they can all nestle inside each other for easy offseason storage. What do you think?
